What You Can Expect From CalTel
CalTel recognizes how important it is to stay connected during an emergency. Following the State of Emergency declared in Calaveras County due to the Gann Fire, CalTel has implemented temporary service accommodations for residential and small business customers affected by the emergency.


Protecting Our Customers
Available Customer Protections
The following emergency customer protections are available:
- Call forwarding and messaging activation fees: CalTel will waive the one-time activation fee for establishing remote call forwarding, remote access to call forwarding, call forwarding features, and messaging services.
- One month of qualifying service fees: CalTel will waive the monthly rate for one month for remote call forwarding, remote access to call forwarding, call forwarding, call forwarding features, and messaging services.
- Service installation at a temporary or new permanent location: CalTel will waive the service charge for installation at a temporary or new permanent location and again when the customer returns to their premises.
- Wiring at a temporary location: CalTel will waive the fee for one jack and associated wiring at the temporary location, regardless of whether the customer has an inside wiring plan.
- Returning home for customers with an inside wiring plan: CalTel will waive the fee for up to five jacks and associated wiring when an inside wiring plan customer returns to their permanent location.
- Returning home for customers without an inside wiring plan: CalTel will waive the fee for one jack and associated wiring when a non-plan customer returns to their permanent location.
How Long Will These Protections Be Available?
These emergency customer protections will remain in place for 12 months, unless a longer period of emergency is identified in a further proclamation.

About the State of Emergency
The Governor of California issued a State of Emergency for Calaveras County on August 6, 2026, due to the Gann Fire.
These customer protections are being provided in accordance with California Public Utilities Commission Decision 19-08-025.
