Protect Yourself From Unapproved Long-Distance Changes

To help protect you from having your long-distance (toll) carrier changed without your consent, Calaveras Telephone Company can place a Preferred Interexchange Carrier (PIC) Freeze on your account.

A PIC Freeze prevents any change to your preferred carrier unless you give us your express written authorization to remove it. This ensures you cannot be switched to another carrier without your permission — protecting you from being “slammed” by an unauthorized provider.

PIC Freeze Information
  • To place a PIC Freeze, there is no charge the first time.
  • To add or remove a PIC Freeze, the request must be made in writing.
  • While a PIC Freeze is in place, no carrier changes can be made without your written authorization.
Changing Carriers (PIC)
  • To change carriers (PIC) while a PIC Freeze is active, the request must be made in writing.
  • There is a $14.50 charge to change carriers ($5.50 carrier charge + $9.00 service order fee).
  • If you are changing to Calaveras Telephone Company, we will waive the $5.50 carrier charge the first time.
